DAN LORUSSO biography credits portfolio |
Biography: Dan LoRusso Dan LoRusso has delved into dinosaur science and art since childhood. As a boy, he spent countless hours visiting the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University, as well as the Boston Museum of Science. Most of those hours, of course, were spent among the dinosaur collections. Fourteen years of his adult life working as an industrial model/mold maker prepared LoRusso for the next phase in his career: for the over five years, he was a major contributor to the toy lines of Safari Limited of Miami, Florida. LoRusso is also responsible for one half of the Battat/Boston Museum of Science line of dinosaur replicas. Making replicas for toy companies that meet the rather strict demands of that industry but still maintain scientific integrity is only one part of this sculptor's credits, however. LoRusso is the creative force behind The Dinosaur Studio, a company dedicated to the creation and augmentation of high-quality dinosaur sculpture. A line of his 1:35th scale dinosaur replicas is currently available through The Dinosaur Studio, but LoRusso already has larger sculptures -- 1:10th scale -- on permanent display at The Royal Tyrrell Museum of Paleontology in Alberta, Canada, and the Museo Del Ricon Colorado in Mexico. Several other of his 1:10th scale pieces are part of the traveling Ceratopsian Exhibit by Dinamation International. These and others of his 1:10th scale replicas are also available through The Dinosaur Studio catalog. In addition, The Dinosaur Studio is currently working on a life-sized replica of Tyrannosaurus rex for the Boston Museum of Science. Examples of his work have also appeared in EARTH magazine, Dinosaurus magazine, ROCKS & MINERALS magazine, and The Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park Exhibition. He has served as Art Director for both The Dinosaur Society and The Dino Gallery in Los Angeles, California/Tokyo, Japan, technical advisor for a season of PALEOWORLD on The Learning Channel and is presently the on-site supervisor for the "Dinosaurs of Jurassic Park; The Lost World Exhibit". Dan LoRusso presently resides in Medford, Massachusetts with his wife Leslie, their son Adam, and the family pet bunnies, Daisy and Remy. A selection of his artwork is on display in his portfolio.
